With the dry hot weather of California over the last few weeks, my munchkin has been thirsty and I wanted to give her a treat. Store bought juices are loaded with sugars, so I usually like to make my own OJ or lemonade. We went a different route this time. This recipe is a nice and refreshing change. Feel free to add mint if you like that, you can add in thin slices of lime if you want to be fancy, or if you are having a rough day, spike it with your alcohol of choice. This recipe serves about 5-6 and made about half of my pitcher. We have a small family so this was more than enough to last us a few days, but feel free to double it!
Watermelon/Strawberry Agua Fresca
5 cups of cubed seedless watermelon
1 cup of chopped strawberries
1 cup of water
1 1/2 tablespoons of sugar (or sweetener of choice)
2 tablespoons of lime juice
Using a blender or food processor, blend your watermelon, strawberries, and water. If you need to, blend half and then do the other half so that it fits.
Pour your mixture through a fine mesh strainer to catch all the pulp and seeds and you just get all the natural juices of your fruit. You can then throw away the pulp. Once you have strained all the liquid into a pitcher, add in your lime juice and sugar. Mix it well and serve over ice. Easy peasy! Enjoy!
