Of all the months in existence, January 2025 is the month where I needed the most coffee! The world is crazy with unknowns and events….and sometimes you just need a little cup of happiness to keep you going. This recipe will make around 8 cups. Enjoy with friends when it’s piping hot but you can also cool it and store in the fridge and make some yummy cold brew!
Café De Olla
1 cone of piloncillo
1 star anise
4 whole cloves
1 large stick of cinnamon
1 Tb vanilla extract
Peel of one lemon
Peel of one orange
8 cups of water
8 - 10 tablespoons of dark roast ground coffee
In a large pot, place your water, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, piloncillo, orange and lemon peels, and vanilla. Let it come to a boil and then drop the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
After five minutes, add in your coffee and let it simmer on low for another five minutes.
Turn off stove and let your coffee sit for 2-3 minutes. Strain your coffee using a coffee filter or a fine mesh strainer into a tea pot or large glass container. Toss out your grounds and spices.
Enjoy nice and hot OR let it cool and store in your fridge for up to a week to use for cold brew.
For cold brew, I add unsweetened almond milk and some vanilla cold foam on top. Perfection!
